Pickin' for Habitat For Humanity

BIG PINE KEY, Florida Keys - Stellar Keys musicians are to strut their stuff playing folk, bluegrass, country, traditional and original tunes during the Terry Cassidy Pickin' Party, set for noon to 5 p.m. the first Sunday in February each year. As many as 70 musicians are expected to perform at the free-admission event. Now in its 22nd year, the popular annual jam session has benefited Habitat for Humanity of Key West and the Lower Florida Keys for the past eight years. It was conceived by Terry Cassidy, a longtime Keys resident and acclaimed singer, guitarist and banjo picker.

The event takes place on the grounds of the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce, mile marker 31 oceanside on Big Pine Key. The open-air gala typically attracts up to 3,000 music lovers each year. The 2007 entertainment lineup is to feature headliner Terry Cassidy and a host of the seasoned performers whose talents enrich the Florida Keys music scene. Cassidy also encourages nonprofessional pickers to bring their instruments and jam with the featured entertainers.

While the nonstop music provides a feast for the soul, attendees also can feast on culinary attractions including a pig roast and fried turkey dinners with all the fixings. Ice-cold beverages are to be available for purchase. In addition, pickin' partiers can bid on goods and services at a silent auction and Chinese auction, and take their chances at 50/50 drawings - all to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
